Society and Organised Crime

Communities, institutions and criminal authority

This work package examines how people perceive criminal groups and their political power. The research programme brings together population surveys and experimental approaches to study the relationship between individual attitudes, local contexts and wider institutional conditions, with a focus on Italy, the United Kingdom and Japan.

Existing project publications investigate topics including political trust and civic honesty, community opposition to organised crime, masculine honour and the legitimacy of criminal authority. Read the publication list for the studies and their evidence.
