New Research Article Published in the British Journal of Social Psychology

A new article published in the British Journal of Social Psychology introduces a special issue co-edited with Karim Bettache and Peter Beattie (Chinese University of Hong Kong).

The article, titled Redefining Power in Social Psychology, proposes to rethink power as a plural, dynamic, and culturally embedded phenomenon rather than a simple matter of who controls resources. The article, drawing from the contributions to the special issue, analyses how power operates through intersecting mechanisms, varies sharply across cultures, and is often reimagined by marginalized groups as collective resistance, mutual aid, and cultural survival.

These insights call for new frameworks that capture power in action – across levels, contexts, and perspectives – and that inform more equitable ways of understanding and redistributing agency
